A New York man has been arrested in connection with a recent fatal shooting in Wake Forest.

Around 10 p.m. on Aug. 27, Issac Mason, 18, of Long Island, New York, was arrested in Stony Brook, New York, in connection with the Aug. 17 shooting death of Tyler Ray Wood, 29, along the 1000 block of East Wait Avenue.

Mason is currently being held in Suffolk County, New York, pending extradition to North Carolina. He has been charged with murder and with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The Wake Forest Police Department coordinated with local, state, and federal agencies in North Carolina and New York to locate, capture, and arrest Mason. WFPD said it wishes to thank these agencies for their assistance.

Just before 3 a.m. Aug. 17, Wake Forest Police responded to a reported shooting along the 1000 block of East Wait Avenue.

Upon their arrival, officers located one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police reported shortly after 6 p.m. Monday that the gunshot victim from the East Wait Avenue shooting had died from his injuries and that the incident was now being investigated as a homicide.
