John and Nicole Caracciola never imagined that their love story would intertwine with the fast-growing cannabis industry, yet today, the married couple stand at the helm of Cream Cannabis in Jersey City. Alongside their cousins, AJ Prasaguet and Heinrich Badenhorst, the Caracciolas are not only navigating the challenges of launching a business but also raising three kids in the bustling community they now call their second home.

For the couple, the decision to open Cream was born out of a passion for cannabis and an ambition to bring a fresh perspective to the industry. John, a long-time medical cannabis patient, and Nicole, who spent a decade as a junior high special education teacher before transitioning into wellness, saw New Jersey's legalization of recreational cannabis as a golden opportunity. Inspired by the success of AJ and Heinrich’s California dispensary, they decided to make their mark in the heart of Jersey City.

“We love Jersey City,” says Nicole. “The lively downtown area and the beautiful transformation it has undergone made it the perfect place for us to plant our roots and grow our business.”

Running a business while raising children and maintaining a marriage is no easy feat, but the Caracciolas have embraced the challenge. The early days were tough, with the couple spending long hours at the dispensary and missing time with their children. But they’ve found their rhythm now, balancing their schedules so that one of them is always with the kids.

“We are both super competitive by nature, so we’re constantly trying to outdo each other,” Nicole laughs. “It’s become a fun way for us to drive success and turn our hard work into a shared goal.”

What sets Cream Cannabis apart from other dispensaries in the area is the deep community roots and personalized approach the owners bring to their business.

We bring a suburban perspective to the cannabis business,” Nicole continues. “Our selection is carefully curated to meet the diverse needs of our customers, and our focus on education ensures everyone finds the right product. We blend high-quality offerings with exceptional customer service, making each visit an experience rather than just a transaction.”

Education is a cornerstone at Cream. Their knowledgeable staff guide customers through the dispensary’s diverse product range, explaining the effects, benefits, and proper usage of each item. Regular events and workshops also help the community engage with cannabis on a deeper level. “For instance, our upcoming yoga session with 1906 promotes wellness while educating attendees on the benefits of cannabis,” Nicole adds.

Community involvement is another key component of Cream’s mission. “We’re committed to being a positive force in Jersey City,” John says. “By participating in local events, supporting charities, and creating job opportunities, we aim to be more than just a business. Our initiatives, like the Cream Lounge at the Pride event, reflect our dedication to contributing to Jersey City’s vibrant culture.”

The couple is particularly excited about the industry’s shift towards wellness and sustainability. “Innovations in CBD and other cannabinoids are expanding the health benefits of cannabis, making it more accessible for different therapeutic uses,” says Nicole. “Additionally, sustainable cultivation practices are crucial for the environment, and as newcomers to the business, it’s thrilling to see these positive changes.”

When they’re not working at the dispensary, John and Nicole spend nearly all of their free time with their three children; coaching or cheering for them on the sidelines of a baseball and football field or basketball court. “Our kids are deeply involved in sports, and as former athletes ourselves, there's truly no place we’d rather be,” says John.

So, what can customers expect when they visit Cream for the first time? “The first thing you’ll notice is our warm welcome from our security guard and amazing staff,” says Nicole. “We pride ourselves on creating a vibe that’s both inviting and educational. Our goal is to make everyone feel at home while providing top-notch cannabis knowledge and products.”
