Should Seahawks be interested in former Vikings QB?

When the Seattle Seahawks revealed their initial 53-man roster for the 2024 season, only two quarterbacks were listed. Geno Smith is the established starter , now going into his third season at the top of the team's depth chart. Sam Howell is now the primary backup , having replaced Drew Lock, who left for the New York Giants in free agency.

There was no third quarterback listed for a good reason. Third-stringer P.J. Walker played poorly in all three preseason games for Seattle this year and he was one of their cuts as they trimmed their roster down from 90 to 53 players.

Head coach Mike Macdonald and general manager John Schneider may decide to just roll with Smith and Walker as the regular season begins. However, an intriguing third option just hit the market.

According to Brady Henderson at ESPN , the Seahawks had interest in BYU quarterback Jaren Hall leading up to the 2023 NFL draft, but he went to the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round (164 overall). Hall wound up starting two games last year , going 1-1 with a 70.4 passer rating and a QBR of 5.1. Still, Hall is only 26 years old and has time to grow into his game.

If that interest was real, Seattle has another chance to land him, because the Vikings just placed Hall on waivers in order to make room for Brett Rypien. At the moment the Seahawks are 16th in the waiver wire order, so if they decide to put in a claim they'll need at least half the league to pass on Hall to get him.
