The Florida State Seminoles entered the 2024 season with high hopes of redeeming themselves after being left out of last year's College Football Playoff. However, their aspirations took a major hit when the Seminoles suffered a loss in their first game of the season.

The expanded College Football Playoff gives the Seminoles a chance to revive their season and make a push for the playoffs. However, ESPN's Paul Finebaum thinks that the Seminoles may not have what it takes, especially since they haven't faced their toughest opponents yet.

"Their schedule is too daunting, Greeny; they have all of the big cats (left) in the ACC," Finebaum said. "There's some really good schools like Miami, they have Notre Dame, they have Clemson, it's too much for them. This is just not last year's team."

Finebaum described last year's team as "supreme" and "elite," but he believes that this year's team lacks too much. While he acknowledges that a team can improve significantly throughout a season, he doesn't think the Seminoles will improve enough to become contenders.

The Seminoles aim to recover from their first-game defeat against Georgia Tech on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024. They will face the Boston College Eagles in another prime-time conference game at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
