U.S. Federal Agents are taking it to the Mexican Cartels - racking up some huge drug busts along our Southern Border - as August comes to a close. The largest bust so far was reported along the Rio Grande in Texas.
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Officers discovered 95 packages containing 101.89 pounds of methamphetamine inside a car crossing the Hidalgo International Bridge from Mexico on August 27, 2024. The drugs seized are valued at $910,903.
The driver fled on foot, and when the pursuing Border Patrol agents pulled up to the crash scene it became apparent why he risked his life by fleeing them at a dangerously-high rate of speed.
The agents found more than two pounds of deadly Fentanyl pills inside the trunk of the crashed-out car.
Finally, from Tucson comes word of another notable end-of-the-month Border Patrol seizure - but not drugs.
Agents there recently stopped a smuggling attempt involving a huge amount of ammo - which was on its way to arm a Mexican Cartel (along with at least one weapon) -when this bust occurred. The Border Patrol has not yet released many details about this incident.
Also certainly worth a mention: CBP Officers at the San Ysidro, California report seizing more than one ton of narcotics, worth millions of dollars during the month of July, 2024.
In all, they seized 2,627.80 pounds of drugs in 50 separate smuggling attempts consisting of:
