Aberdeen police are looking for the driver of a vehicle struck by another driver, after they left the scene of the crash Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred just after 7 a.m., said Cmdr. Steve Timmons of the Aberdeen Police Department.

“The suspect vehicle — the at-fault driver … hit a truck. The victim vehicle, the truck, fled,” Timmons said. “The driver of the suspect vehicle, who stayed on scene, is a 32-year-old Humptulips man.”

The crash occurred on the 1300 block of West Market Street, Timmons said. The at-fault driver struck the rear of the victim vehicle, a black truck, Timmons said, before his own car, a 2008 Chevrolet sedan, caught fire.

“When our officer got there it was fully engaged,” Timmons said. “The fire department showed up and put it out.”

The victim vehicle, the black truck, took off westbound on Market Street, Timmons said, but has not been located as of Wednesday lunchtime. The at-fault driver was cited for driving without a license, Timmons said. Police are attempting to identify and make contact with the other driver as they investigate the case, Timmons said.

“Once we get the case further investigated, we can make a determination if there’s other charges,” Timmons said. “We really want to find the other vehicle first before we consider other charges.”

Timmons said that anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency line.
