Prayers Pouring In For UNC Quarterback Max Johnson After Gruesome Injury

North Carolina quarterback Max Johnson is out for the rest of the Tar Heels matchup against Minnesota after sustaining what looked to be a gruesome leg injury late in the third quarter.

Johnson was hit low by a Golden Gophers defender after squeezing out a pass under heavy pressure. The pass fell incomplete and Johnson, noticeably in serious pain, did not rise to his feet until he was helped to the sideline and eventually carted off to the locker room.

After reviewing the replay, the stadium and the ESPN broadcast booth sat in silence for a moment while Johnson was tended to.

The Athens, Georgia native transferred to the Tar Heels this offseason following stops at LSU and Texas A&M. The fifth-year senior was ultimately passed over for a starting role by both of those programs before finding a home in Chapel Hill.

FOX Sports analyst Brock Huard, a former Washington Huskies quarterback, shared an emotional response to the camera panning to Johnson's parents following the injury.

"My mom was a 3-time QB mom, it's a hard job... every eyeball judges a QB on every single play and moms carry that weight."

"I feel terrible for Max Johnson," a fan tweeted. "Prayers for that young man."

"Prayers up for Max Johnson man, that was an ugly situation he was put in once he let that ball go." a user added.

"Prayers up to Max Johnson," another tweet read. "Praying for Gods healing power over him quickly."

North Carolina faithful and college football fans aren't the only ones who have grasped the serious nature of situation. Even Minnesota fans are sharing heartfelt messages.

"Even though I’m on the Minnesota side I hate to see injuries," a Golden Gophers fan tweeted. "Prayers to UNCs Max Johnson."

Time will tell the exact nature of Johnson's injury, although the camera view is not good. Unfortunately, this is the nature of the sport we all cherish. We wish Johnson and his family the best as he recovers and look forward to seeing him back on the field.
