Big Sean — Better You Than Me

Four years since dropping Detroit 2, Big Sean delivers his newest album, Better Me Than You. It’s a loosely based concept album about going through difficult challenges and finding balance, but it’s also a personal look at his life today.

Sean delves into a myriad of topics on this project, including fatherhood, his relationship with Jhené Aiko, feuds, and his status in the game. That’s exemplified by “On Up,” a song and video about his son, Noah.

Elsewhere on the album, Sean brings many familiar faces into the mix. Rappers like Gunna, Kodak Black, Larry June, and Nasaan are a part of the album. Plus, singers like Charlie Wilson, Eryn Allen Kane, Bryson Tiller, Teyana Taylor, and Cash Cobain bless the project with their voices.

Sean Don recently opened up about his LP during an Instagram Live session. “I am a chronic over-thinker. I’m a chronic, constant worker,” he said. “I’ve been having a hard time lately. It has not been easy but it’s worth it. The whole concept of the album is Better Me Than You . When you go through your sh-t, it’s like, you’re the one who can handle it. That’s the concept of the album.”

Victoria Monét f. Usher — “SOS (Sex On Sight)”

Victoria Monét is coming off an successful, Grammy award-winning Jaguar II journey. Now, the singer ramps up momentum with a new Usher-assisted single, “SOS (Sex On Sight).”

First up, Monét delivers on that raunchy title with some mood-setting R&B. “I need that SOS, sex on sight, baby, it’s urgent,” she sings on the track. “Let me f-ck up all your plans; come put your work in.”

Next, Usher doesn’t shy away from the thematic bedroom concept either. “I got a question though, if I can make the time, I’ll be good to go?” He asks. “Texting me X and Os / Can’t kiss, touch d-ck through the phone though.”

Monét says this song came together organically. “We have another song together. It’s coming in the future. So we were working together on that song. He came by the studio to work on that,” she told Apple Music . “When he got there, I was working on ‘SOS.’ But I just had the hook only. He was like, ‘Let me hear what you’re working on.’ I play it and after the hook goes off, he starts mumbling a melody. I was like, ‘Hm.’”

LL Cool J f. Eminem — “Murdergram Deux”

LL Cool J dropped his song “Murdergram” on his seminal 1990 album Mama Said Knock You Out . 34 years later, Jack the Ripper unleashes the sequel with a new special guest, Eminem.

LL Cool J plays with words while showcasing his appreciation for Marshall Mathers. “Slide up behind you, testing my rifle / Give blessings to my disciples, professional, I’m a sniper,” Cool J raps. “Like 8 miles away, me and Marshall doing murders / With dirty burners, break them down and melt them in the furnace.”

Slim Shady also references the legend on the track. “Come back with vengeance like Jack the Ripper to rip it / Just givin’ you a sample, a f-ckin’ snippet / Like scissors do / Now when I hit the booth / I think of the days that are over, when I was quick, this fool / used to fly off the handle like a f-ckin’ witch’s broom.”

LL spoke with the Detroit News about his Eminem bond. “That’s my guy, he’s a good friend of mine,” Cool J explained. “He’s a great artist, a very generous artist and there’s a lot of hard work in what he does. Genuinely, he’s a great friend of mine, and he’s so creative, he’s a good dude; I love working with Em.”

Doechii — Alligator Bites Never Heal

Doechii is one of Top Dawg Entertainment’s brightest new stars. The TDE rapper and singer already has some hits under her belt like “What It Is” and “Alter Ego” and now, she delivers her newest body of work, Alligator Bites Never Heal .

Doechii handles the 19-song project as a soloist, except for one one song, “GTFO,” which features Kuntfetish. The project also includes Swamp Session singles “Boom Bap” and “Nissan Altima,” which earned recognition for their gritty beats, potent flows, and hard-hitting rhymes.

The artist, who calls herself the Swamp Princess, addressed her fans on social media. “To my Swamp, my devoted core fans, I hope you cherish this mixtape and create beautiful memories to it,” Doechii wrote. “Use my music to encourage you through the rough days and use it to imagine better ones.”

Doechii recently held a listening event in Los Angeles where she received support from Tyler, The Creator, Isaiah Rashad, Baby Tate, and Zacari, among others. She also got support from her label head Top Dawg and TDE’s president Punch. This marks her first project since 2022’s She / Her / Black B-tch and 2020’s Oh the Places You’ll Go .
