The NFL Season Hasn’t Yet Begun & Shedeur Sanders Is Already Being Talked Up On National TV As The Cowboys’ Next QB

Move over, Dak Prescott! Sounds like Shedeur Sanders is coming for your job before you even have the chance to prove that you can earn yet another contract as the Dallas Cowboys' franchise quarterback. To be clear, I think it'd be a brilliant move and one of the only ways America's Team could meaningfully shake up their organization in an effort to get over the hump in the playoffs. Shelling out something like $60 million per season to Dak in the coming years would feel like Jerry Jones doesn't really care about winning. If the Cowboys could get Shedeur on a rookie contract, not only would that be very cost-effective — they'd be one of the only destinations
his father Deion would sign off on , since he's an ex-Cowboy himself. It's also one of the only locker rooms who could handle Shedeur's personality in my opinion. https://twitter.com/barstoolsports/status/1829552910188863901 The problem is that Dallas can't get out of its own way. Jerry's 'Boys haven't made it past the Divisional Round of the playoffs since the 1995 campaign. Three straight 12-win seasons have yielded one postseason victory. Head coach Mike McCarthy is in a contract year, as is Dak. It's now or never for them. With so much yet to be decided, former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum went on ESPN's Get Up to suggest Shedeur is likelier to start for the Cowboys in Week 1 of 2025 than Dak. https://twitter.com/GetUpESPN/status/1829523025420574934 One major problem with that notion: The Cowboys would have to be pretty bad to be in range to draft Shedeur Sanders. As of right now, Pro Football Focus' mock draft simulator and Tankathon's projected draft order have Dallas picking 25th overall. If you reverse DraftKings' Super Bowl odds to come up with a draft order that way, the 'Boys still wouldn't pick until No. 22. If you look back on the Chiefs' massive move up for
Patrick Mahomes , they got all the way from the 27th pick to the 10th to get their eventual three-time Super Bowl-winning superstar. The difference there was most teams near the top of the order weren't viewed to be in desperate need of a QB. Mitch Trubisky (No. 2 overall) was the only QB selected before Mahomes. We also have no clue how the 2024 college season will play out. At this time last year, Jayden Daniels most definitely wasn't a first-round prospect. Concerns lingered over Michael Penix Jr.'s injury history. Bo Nix needed another year to prove his first-round status. JJ McCarthy was a consensus Day 2 guy. All of them wound up joining Caleb Williams among the top 12 picks. So yeah, Shedeur lit it up against FCS opponent North Dakota State on Thursday night with 445 passing yards and four TDs. Georgia's Carson Beck, Texas' Quinn Ewers, and other unforeseen first-round candidates still have their chance to shine all year long. Dallas would need Beck, Ewers, and maybe a couple others to enter the Round 1 mix to have any hope of landing Shedeur in the draft. The good news is, Shedeur's favorite target,
Travis Hunter, is such a stud that he's almost guaranteed to knock a top-flight QB or two down the draft board. Unless the Cowboys make it to at least the NFC Championship Game, or Dak wins regular-season MVP, they shouldn't stick together. I'm frankly tired of seeing the two parties together. Just split up and move on. Similar to the Steelers clinging to Mike Tomlin, the whole league would be better off if those sides parted ways. Two iconic franchises stuck in their ways and mired in relative mediocrity by their historic standards. Take it away, Danny O. Talk some sense into your colleague! Or should I say, ESPN colleagues plural . https://twitter.com/danorlovsky7/status/1829546155275129212 https://twitter.com/danorlovsky7/status/1829565643428941896 https://twitter.com/danorlovsky7/status/1829567467078996118
