Finding deals won’t be hard when you’ve got a St. Johns County library card. That’s thanks to the county’s new Community Connections program, part of the an effort this September to get more people using their local libraries.

Throughout September, all you have to do to secure discounts at restaurants, stores and attractions around St. Johns County is show your local library card.

Deals include $1 off admission at Anastasia Mini Golf, 10% off a purchase at Hastings Coffee Co., 50% off entry to the Oldest House Museum Complex in downtown St. Augustine and more.

The program comes as part of St. Johns County’s push to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month. In addition to the Community Connections program, the county is launching newly designed library cards in flashy, bright colors.

It’s all a part of celebrating the important roles that public libraries play in communities, library director Debra Rhodes Gibson says.

“Libraries and their librarians have taken on other roles far beyond just lending books,” she says. “In many communities, librarians act as social workers and guides, helping people navigate life’s complexities. This ‘go-to’ role has shaped our programming and events, offering advice and connections to resources like health, housing, literacy, employment and education.”

Existing library cardholders can take advantage of the deals in September, and the county is encouraging people without lirbary cards to take the plunge and get one. You can sign up for a temporary library card online, but for full access to the county’s library system you’ll have to fill out a form and bring it to your local library.
