Barry Keoghan Is Joining the Cast of the New ‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie: Everything We Know

If you’ve spent any time on the internet over the last year, then you’ve probably heard of Barry Keoghan. Whether it be for his semi-unsettling performance in Saltburn (2023) or for his connection to rising pop-star Sabrina Carpenter, he’s a name we’ve seen circulating quite a lot in the last several months.

While his career began years prior (perhaps you’ve seen him in some of his other notable films, such as The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), Dunkirk (2017), The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) or even Marvel’s Eternals in 2021), it seems as though these days, he’s all anyone can talk about — and as far as his career goes, his resume is only building.

It was recently announced that the 31-year-old actor would be joining the cast of the Peaky Blinders feature film, with a cast that is also set to include the lead actor in the original Peaky Blinders series, Cillian Murphy, as well as actress Rebecca Ferguson.

At this point in time, the role that Keoghan will play in the Peaky Blinders movie is yet to be announced. Ferguson’s part in the film is also still a mystery. And, the only role that has been confirmed is that of Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his part of Tommy Shelby.

What is the new ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie about?

The highly anticipated film, which is said to be a continuation of the original series which began in 2013 and concluded in 2022, is said to take place between the years of 1919 and 1934. While specifics have been kept quiet, viewers can expect to sink back into the inner workings of the Shelby family as they navigate an era of conflict and change.

“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” said show creator Steven Knight via PA Media. “It will be an explosive chapter in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ story. No holds barred. Full on ‘Peaky Blinders’ at war.”

When will the new ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie be released?

At the moment, no release date has been declared as production has yet to begin. However, it is expected to start later this year.

“ It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me …It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders,” said Murphy via Netflix’s X account. “This is one for the fans.”
