Arne Slot Reveals Chiesa Not Read for United's Game

Arne Slot spoke about Liverpool's new signing Federico Chiesa's readiness ahead of Man United's game. The Dutchman revealed that the Italian may not be ready. Liverpool will travel to Old Trafford to face their big rivals Manchester United. It's expected to be a very tricky fixture for the Reds.

Throughout last season Liverpool won over Manchester United in their 3 meetings. Even though they were the better team on the pitch. However this season Liverpool will be hoping to get the better of United this time and go for the international break in high spirits.

Arne Slot has revealed Chiesa will train with the team. However, it won't be enough to make him feature against the Red Devils. He said: “He’s going to train with us today, but there’s a bigger chance that he will not be on the squad for Sunday than he is,” the head coach said during Friday morning’s pre-match press conference. If injuries come up in the upcoming two days, we might need him, but I don’t expect him to be in, and I cannot guarantee this.”

Arne Slot continued and pointed out he wants the fans to be patient with the Italian, and he said: “As I said before, if we sign someone that can help us [in] achieving our goals and improve the squad, if we then find someone, of course, you're excited that we brought him in. I think one of the best things about working here, what I've noticed until now, is the culture of the team. They work really hard to try to achieve their goals. And I think it's really important that the first player you bring in has that same attitude and brings the same culture.”

Slot on Chiesa's quality

The Liverpool coach expressed the value Chiesa will bring on the pitch, and he said: “He works hard on and off the pitch to try to get the best out of himself, and he combines this with scoring goals and, like I said, [being] aggressive without the ball – those are already two characteristics with him. With him [able to play] so many positions – on the right, on the left and maybe even in the middle – it makes him an interesting signing for us.”

He continued saying “Although I agree with you, we should take care of him in the beginning because he didn't train with the team in the last two weeks – but before he did. [He] hasn't played many game minutes yet but we have a very good performance staff, so we will build him up in the right way and then hopefully we can see his quality in the near future.”

Arne Slot also spoke about the trilling fixture between both teams. He compared the game on Sunday with the pre-season friendly the Reds had against United, and he said: “It's going to be different, of course, because when we played them in the States, I think it was 50-50 [with], the fans.

The stadium was somewhere the same – I think it was 80,000 or something like that – but the atmosphere will be completely different, of course, because I'm not expecting half of the stadium to be cheering for us or they are in favor of us – I would be surprised if it happens! So, that's going to be different, but what makes it different is that both teams have a lot of different players on the pitch. So you can't compare that game with the game on Sunday.”
