The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Bovina in Warren County, a city around 35 miles west of Jackson, where a commerical passenger bus left the road and overturned while traveling west.

Six passengers were pronounced deceased on the scene, and one died at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg. Among those who died were a pair of siblings, a 6-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl, whose mother survived the wreck, said Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey He is still working to identify the remaining five victims.

37 other passengers were transported to different hospitals in Vicksburg and Jackson with unknown injuries. The bus was operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, a transit company that provides cross-border trips between one hundred destinations in Mexico and the U.S. Their website states that they operate “a modern fleet of buses that receive daily maintenance,” and offers “trips with a special price for workers.”

This crash is an ongoing investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division.
