LYON COUNTY, Iowa ( KCAU ) — Two people were arrested on Sunday for their role in the death of a six-week-old infant.
According to a press release , Sydney Schneidermann, of Little Rock was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of child endangerment resulting in death. Brenan Schneidermann, of Little Rock, was charged with one count of child endangerment resulting in death.
Court documents state that they brought their child to the emergency room on September 10, 2023, at 7:36 p.m. after what Sydney Schneidermann allegedly described as an episode where the infant went limp in the arms of Brenan Schneiderman.
During the visit, it was documented that the child had unexplained red marks along his jawline.
When the infant’s vitals were determined to be normal by medical staff, Sydney and Brenan Schneidermann were directed to take the baby to their primary care provider the next day.
The documents allege the infant did not eat or suck on his pacifier overnight or into the morning.
The provider who saw the child at the ER followed up with Sydney Schneider the following day for an update. She was directed to bring the child back to the ER, according to the documents.
When they arrived, it immediately became apparent that the child was in critical condition. The documents noted that the red marks had developed into bruises since the child was last seen.
According to the documents, the child was transferred to a hospital in Sioux Falls but succumbed to injuries consistent with abuse on September 25.
An autopsy was performed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner, and it was determined that the child’s cause of death was head trauma. It was also discovered that the child had various stages of healing rib fractures.
Additionally, the documents noted that digital evidence showed that Sydney Schneider had researched Shaken Baby Syndrome on her phone three days prior to bringing the baby to the hospital on September 10.
