Penfolds Rolls Out Stellar Non-Vintage Champagne Cuvée

By Matthew Kaner | Will Travel For Wine,

    2024-09-02

Australian wine titan Penfolds first partnered with the family-owned Champagne House Thiénot in 2019 to ring in their 175th anniversary. Today the fruitful alliance continues with their newest collaboration release: the Non-Vintage Cuvée Brut Champagne. While the stage was set with many single-vintage Champagnes, this go-around shows the elegance and presence of a non-vintage bottling that showcases all three allowable grapes in the region.

The profile of the Champagnes are driven by Penfolds Chief Winemaker, Peter Gago, in conjunction with Stanislas Thiénot (Managing Director of the House) and Thiénot Chef de Cave, Nicolas Uriel. Style and quality ambitions have been shared and refined across the time they have spent together over the years–in vineyards, in the winery in Taissy, in Classification tastings (in Champagne & Paris, and virtually during Covid!). The NV Champagne Brut is made from grapes sourced from highly regarded vineyards across the Champagne region and the resulting blend is made up of 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay.

“Following in the footsteps of the single-vineyard Grand Cru 2012, 2013 and 2014 Thiénot x Penfolds Avize Blanc de Blancs and 2012, 2013 and 2014 Aÿ Blanc de Noirs, this is such an appealing Champagne, a perfect aperitif offer for Spring (and the rest of the year for that matter!). An inaugural N/V Cuvée release that beckons interest, and adds to the allure of the earlier-released Non-Vintage Rosé Champagne.” - Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker

The launch of the Cuvée Brut coincides with the Champagne Rosé undergoing a refreshing pack re-design in line with the contemporary look for the Cuvée Brut. Penfolds Champagne Cuvée Brut in collaboration with Champagne Thiénot will be available globally starting today, September 1st, 2024.
