Northern California is gearing up for a significant heatwave this week, with temperatures expected to soar well above normal. The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a warning for a rapid warm-up beginning Tuesday, with temperatures climbing 5-10 degrees above average. By midweek, the region could see widespread triple-digit heat, especially in the Valley and Foothills, where a Major HeatRisk is forecast.

Today's cooler temperatures, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s, will quickly give way to scorching conditions as upper-level ridging builds over the area. Breezy northerly winds and dry conditions are expected to elevate fire weather concerns through Tuesday night. The hottest days will be Wednesday and Thursday, with the Valley and Delta regions experiencing widespread Moderate HeatRisk, while the thermal belts in the Foothills brace for potentially dangerous Major HeatRisk.
