The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for much of the region from Wednesday morning through Friday evening, with temperatures expected to reach dangerously high levels. Following an active weekend of thunderstorms, a quieter and much hotter weather pattern is settling in as drier air blankets the Desert Southwest.

Starting today, high pressure will strengthen over the region, pushing temperatures well above normal. By midweek, afternoon highs are expected to soar between 110-115°F across most lower desert areas, with some locations in southeast California potentially exceeding 115°F. These extreme temperatures could pose significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations, and residents are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The Excessive Heat Watch will remain in effect through Friday evening, with slightly cooler, yet still hot, conditions expected over the weekend as the high-pressure system weakens.
