Paul Finebaum addresses if he’s concerned about Sherrone Moore, Michigan

Paul Finebaum isn’t exactly concerned about Sherrone Moore and Michigan following Week 1’s victory over Fresno State .

But Week 2 does not bring any cupcakes to Ann Arbor. The Texas Longhorns come to Michigan for a visit and want to remind the college football world they’re a title contender.

On the flip side, it’d be a nice reminder to the world if Michigan won, as Finebaum pointed out. He just isn’t sure the Wolverines can get it done.

“The one thing you would rather not have is the eyes of the nation on you (in) Week 2 into the season,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show . “But that’s exactly what he has with the Texas Game, I mean, everybody will be there. There’s not that much else going on this weekend. I don’t think so. All the other trailer shows will show up, all the attention at noon. And you know, it’s conversely a great chance to say, ‘oh, okay, we’re back.’ We’re not back but it’s a continuum, but certainly the odds don’t favor that.”

Michigan took down Fresno State 31-10 and a Will Johnson pick-six sealed the deal in the end. But it wasn’t the dominant performance fans were used to in 2023.

Not only that, but Moore didn’t announce his starting quarterback until kickoff: Davis Warren, a former walk-on.

“Just training camp. Him and Alex (Orji) had a really good training camp, but ultimately, he won the job the last week, really,” Moore said . “He was just consistent. He took care of the football, made plays against that defense that you saw out there.

“For us, they played hard for both players, but he ultimately took the job and won it. So, that made the decision easier for us.”

In the win for Michigan, Warren completed 15-of-his-25 pass attempts for 118 yards and a touchdown while throwing an interception. Orji also saw action but his playing time was limited. He only threw two passes, one of which was for a touchdown.

Safe to say, Michigan will need more out of that position and another great performance from running back Donovan Edwards to keep up with Texas.

Texas visits Michigan Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET in Ann Arbor.
