A tiny Labrador puppy named Sutton has a very unconventional "favorite toy," and it's a hoot to watch him play with it.

On August 19, 2024, TikTok user Sutton (@suttonthelabrador), which follows the tiny puppy, shared a video of the little guy playing with this toy. Take a look!

In a quick 22-second video, we meet Sutton, who is having the time of his life outside playing.

"Just a puppy and his paper bag," the text on the screen reads as the sweet, tiny dog runs around on the grass with a giant paper bag in his mouth.

The paper bag looks like it's the same size as Sutton and he struggles to carry it, trips on the bag a few times, and the whole time his tail is wagging so fast it looks it might knock him over, too.

The adorable dog loves his unconventional toy, and it's really cute to see how happy such a simple item makes him. It reminds us of human toddlers who often have more fun playing with large boxes of toys than the toys themselves.

"His favorite toy," the video's caption reads.

Why Toys Are Important for a Happy Dog

There are a lot of reasons why having toys around when you have a dog is so important and the biggest or most overarching reason is for their overall health.

According to RSPCA Victoria, there are seven reasons why toys are so important for dogs from it being a way for them to burn their energy to keeping the bond between you and your dog strong.

"Playing with toys is the equivalent of us doing a crossword or Sudoku puzzle," the organization explains. "The mental stimulation provided by toys will tire your dog out quicker than a 30-minute walk, leaving them with less energy to get themselves into trouble!"

The RSPCA also says that toys are great for helping dogs build independence while offering an opportunity to learn.

"Toys keep your pooch entertained while you’re not there, so they learn that they can have fun while you’re not there. They’ll also be more likely to give you your space when you’re trying to get things done at home," the organization explains.

Adding, "Enrichment toys can enhance your pup’s ability to learn, helping them develop new skills. It also promotes their natural behavior such as foraging, exploring, and playing."

With toys being so important for a dog's mental and physical health, it's a good thing that there are so many different toys available.
