The USC Trojans are set to make a significant leap in the AP Poll following their impressive 27-20 victory over the LSU Tigers. This win, achieved on Sunday night in Las Vegas, marks a turning point for the No. 23 Trojans, who showcased a strong performance against the No. 13 Tigers.

USC's defense was a standout, effectively limiting LSU's offensive capabilities. Quarterback Miller Moss had a noteworthy game, throwing for 378 yards and a touchdown, further solidifying his role as a key player for the Trojans. Under the guidance of first-year defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn, the Trojans displayed marked improvement on defense compared to previous seasons. The offense also performed well, moving the ball efficiently without committing any turnovers.

While the Trojans celebrated their victory, they faced a challenge: most ranked teams ahead of them also secured wins in their opening matchups. Notable exceptions included No. 10 Florida State and No. 14 Clemson, both of which lost. Despite this, USC's victory over a ranked opponent positions them favorably for a rise in the rankings.

Expectations are high for the Trojans to enter the top 20. Teams like No. 18 Kansas State and No. 21 Arizona, which had less convincing performances, may fall behind USC in the rankings. Kansas State won decisively against UT Martin, but the close score early on raised questions about their dominance. Arizona, on the other hand, won a shootout against New Mexico but struggled defensively.

As the AP Top-25 Poll is set to be released, the Trojans are likely to find themselves ranked between 13 and 17, reflecting their strong performance against LSU and the mixed results from other ranked teams. This victory not only boosts their ranking but also sets a positive tone for the rest of the season.
