Mohsin Naqvi Set to Replace ICC Chairman Jay Shah as ACC Chief

Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, is reportedly in the lead to become the next ACC president. It is anticipated that Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board at the moment, will succeed Jay Shah as president of the Asian Cricket Council. Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), created history when he was elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council.

The identity of Shah’s replacement as the head of the Asian Cricket Council is becoming more and more of a topic of conversation within the Indian board. Shah will need to step down from both his position as chairman of the ACC and his position as secretary of the BCCI when he accepts the ICC position. Mohsin Naqvi To Succeed Shah

Before starting his two-year term in 2025, PTI sources claim that Naqvi will be named as Shah’s replacement after those talks in October and November. The PTI source stated, “The ACC will confirm that Mohsin Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term when it meets later this year. The PCB chief will take over after Jay Shah steps down.”

Jay Shah presided over the ACC for four years, having been granted a one-year term extension after his first three-year tenure. Shah is expected to take over as the head of the ICC overall after winning the post without any opposition in August. Overseeing the Asia Cup in 2025, which will be hosted in India, Mohsin Naqvi’s two-year mandate will be crucial to the ACC’s future ambitions.

As president of the ACC and chairman of the PCB, Naqvi will be involved in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in his native Pakistan. Naqvi was chosen to lead the PCB in February 2024 and began serving as Pakistan’s interior minister in March of the same year. His appointment to the ACC presidency would be his third significant position in the same year.

Naqvi’s ACC Role

Mohsin Naqvi will be in charge of the controversial situation involving the Indian national team’s play in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy. Since 2008, the Indian squad has not visited Pakistan. Not to mention, the PCB president has come under fire from several sources. This was especially after a challenging start to his leadership, which included Pakistan’s defeat in the opening Test match of their series against Bangladesh, as well as their elimination from the T20 World Cup in the group stage. This followed a crushing defeat to the USA.

In addition to becoming the nation’s Interior Minister in March 2024, Mohsin Naqvi succeeded Ramiz Raja as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board in 2024. A report in the news agency PTI confirms that Naqvi is set to replace Shah as the new ACC chairman, and the decision will be announced formally later this year. Following Jay Shah‘s retirement, the PCB CEO is most likely to assume leadership.
