My issue with dating is that our language has changed so much in recent years that we need a Newspeak guide. For example, a date used to refer to agreeing to meeting a person at a specific time and place in person to communicate directly and decide if you’d like to see them again. Then after a few similar meetings engage in a relationship where you may become intimate. It used to involve a man usually taking the lead and the woman, not taking offense, but either accepting or declining graciously. Very human, very civil. Today, a “date” only happens after you have exchanged numerous photos on line, texted each other, exchanging more communications increasingly sexual in nature and maybe spoke on the phone once, before finally meeting for a sexual encounter in person. That’s it. That’s what dating has become.
