When summer sizzles, fresh herbs turn drinks into quenching creations. On this week's episode of the Gardening Tips podcast, the Chicago Botanic Garden's Jacob Burns talks about how to use herbs to spruce up your summer drinks.

Start by gathering your favorite herbs like mint, basil, lavender, rosemary, and lemon balm, and gently washing them to release their fragrant oils.

For a classic twist, muddle mint leaves with a splash of lime and sugar to make a zesty mojito. Basil and strawberries make an unbeatable duo. Muddle them and combine with lime and ginger ale for a fruity mule.

Steep a few sprigs of lavender in hot water and mix with lemonade for a calming floral treat. Or, infuse rosemary with honey and lemonade for a refreshing pick-me-up. Freeze lemon balm inside ice cubes for an elegant accent that keeps your beverage cold.

For a finishing touch, garnish drinks with fresh herbs this summer and savor nature's abundance with every sip.
