Brad Pitt and George Clooney are Pam's Man and Margaret's Man in Wolfs , the new film from Spider-Man director, Jon Watts that sees the duo team up in the action comedy about a professional fixer (Clooney) hired to cover up a high-profile crime.

Pitt comes in as a second fixer, and the two "lone wolves" must work together, but eventually find their night spiralling out of control.

Wolfs is heading to AppleTV+ on September 20 following its premiere at this year's Venice Film Festival where critics have given the film a respectable Rotten Tomatoes score of 78%.

Richard Lawson at Vanity Fair calls it "a confident, engaging Saturday-night movie" but it's not much more than that according to most of the early reviews which critique the film for being "so shiny you could use its surface to apply your mascara" as per Donald Clarke at the Irish Times.

"The witty repartee between Clooney and Pitt feels like the only thing holding the film together," Greg Nussen of Slant Magazine says with Deadline's Damon Wise saying the duo's "over-familiarity [robs] the film of surprise".

"The film itself never amounts to much more than a silly, self-satisfied crime caper," says Xan Brooks at The Guardian, "but the headline stars look as though they are enjoying themselves and their sense of fun, by and large, is infectious."

So if you were looking for a bit of fun, Wolfs might be the movie for you, but if you're hoping for some grit, you'll have to keep searching.

    Wolfs Review Roundup

    • Flick Feast: Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s star power supercharges Jon Watts’ entertaining Wolfs . Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, this is a love story disguised as an action comedy thriller. The film is slick, well-polished and most importantly fun.
    • TheWrap: Writer/director Jon Watts, returning to original material after three Spider-Man movies in a row, seems liberated by the chance to stretch his legs. But the aloof quippiness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to have followed him home from work.
    • Looper.com: Wolfs is blatantly obvious, with no surprises or twists you can't see coming a mile away, but sometimes you want the dull comfort of a movie that's so thoroughly committed to doing absolutely nothing.
    • indieWire: Wolfs is merely a diverting entertainment, not an Oscar movie, not an overly serious movie for adults. But it’s a smart one for grown-ups.
    • Screen International: Pitt and Clooney sparkle in a self-aware action comedy that oozes New York noir stylishness. It’s a film that plays engagingly with the public perception of their rapport as one of joshing rivalry.
