Jets vs. 49ers: Trent Williams Holdout Over

On the heels of the news that San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey would be back for their Week 1 game against the Jets, New York also found out that left tackle Trent Williams ended his hold out and would rejoin the team this week.

Williams is a pivotal component of the 49ers’ offense. Entering season No. 14, the former No. 4 overall pick protects the blindside of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and is widely considered one of the best left tackles in the entire league.

While Williams will step back into his starting job, it is important to note that the four-time All-Pro and 11-time Pro Bowler missed all of OTAs, mandatory minicamps, training camp, and the preseason.

He is the consummate pro, however, he may be a little rusty in Week 1, especially against one of the league's toughest defenses. The Jets will game plan for this and potentially try to exploit the fact that he will have less than a week of practice before the game.

The Jets have a holdout issue of their own, but hopes are high that Haason Reddick will come together with New York general manager Joe Douglas to get their differences solved and get him back on the field.

The opening week game between the Jets and 49ers is scheduled to kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET on Monday at Levi's Stadium.
