A road rage incident on Highway 96 and Benton Drive near Oxford Sept. 2 took a dangerous turn as multiple shots were fired by a driver who left the scene.

According to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office, it began as a tailgating road rage incident involving two vehicles, a Mustang and a black truck.

The driver of the Mustang was following too closely and rear-ended the truck.

According to reports, the sheriff’s office said the driver of the truck got out to look at the damage caused by the collision and was shot. The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital and is stable condition, according to reports.

The driver of the Mustang left the scene and is still at large.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the sheriff’s office.

This is an ongoing investigation and the story will be updated as new information becomes available.

Along with carrying a weapon comes responsibility. If they can't handle that, they should be permanently banned from carrying a weapon.
