Georgia holds onto the top spot in the first US LBM Coaches Poll of the college football season, while Southern California makes a significant leap up the rankings.

After a strong performance against Clemson, Georgia received 52 out of 55 first-place votes, solidifying its position at No. 1. Ohio State follows in second place after a convincing win over Akron, earning three first-place votes. Texas moves up to No. 3 after shutting out Colorado State, while Alabama climbs to No. 4.

The competition for the fifth spot was tight, with Mississippi edging out Oregon by just one point. Oregon, which started the season ranked third, drops to No. 6 after a lackluster victory against Idaho. Notre Dame is close behind at No. 7 after defeating Texas A&M.

In the rankings, Penn State and Michigan swapped positions, with Penn State now at No. 8. Missouri also moved up to No. 10, taking the spot previously held by Florida State, which has fallen out of the rankings after two losses.
