That, however, was as much as he was willing to reveal regarding the decision. As head coach, Daboll said he is responsible for everything, when asked about taking on extra responsibilities.
It was speculated that Daboll took over those duties from offensive coordinator Mike Kafka last season, though it was never confirmed and Kafka remains on the staff in the same position.
“Almost everybody in the league does it, that’s an offensive head coach,” Daboll said.
He declined to go into why he made the change, repeatedly saying his focus was on preparing to face the Vikings in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium.
“I think everyone calls it a little bit differently. Different answers to different things,” Daniel Jones said, when asked about Daboll taking over play-calling duties. “Overall, [there are] a lot of similarities and a lot of things we’ve done over the years and had success with. I think it’s just getting used to hearing another voice in the helmet and understanding how he sees the game.”
Adoree’ Jackson, brought back by the Giants over the weekend, is on a “ramp-up type schedule” as he works himself into football shape. He had been lifting weights and doing speed training with his former high school track coach to prepare for the coming season.
“Practice was smooth. It was good to be out with the guys, running around,” said the 28-year-old cornerback, a starter for the Giants the last three seasons. “I thought when I put my helmet and pads on I might fall over, because I hadn’t put them on in a while. Other than that, it was just cool.”

In the portion of practice open to the media, Jackson fielded punts and took part in individual drills with the cornerbacks. Jackson is uncertain what role he will have in Week 1, but he is preparing himself to be active.
“That’s my mentality, you got to expect to [play], because you never know what may happen,” Jackson said.
Linebacker Micah McFadden (groin) and wide receiver/returner Gunner Olszewski (groin) both participated in select individual drills during practice. The entire 53-man roster practiced on Tuesdayin some fashion.
