Purchase a Smartphone with a Qualcomm Chip? You may be entitled to a cash settlement

    2024-09-03

Did you purchase a smartphone with a Qualcomm chip in it? You may be entitled to a cash settlement. The settlement is connected to a class action lawsuit filed by the FTC against Qualcomm, an American manufacturer of processor chips. The class action alleges that Qualcomm violated state antitrust laws which harmed competition and caused consumers to overpay for cell phones for years due to their "No License, No Chips" business practice. "No License, No Chips" refers to Qualcomms refusal to let companies use it's processor chips without licensing their technology. The amount that consumers may have overpaid due to these practices is over $5 Billion dollars.

You may be affected by this lawsuit if you purchased a new phone with UTMS, CDMA, or LTE technology for personal use between February 11, 2011 and the present. Affected brands include but are not limited to Samsung, Apple, Coolpad, HTC, Huawei, Kyocera, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Microsoft, Nokia, Sony, TCL, ZTE, Alcatel and BlackBerry. These phones were offered both as stand alone equipment purchases and also bundled as part of contract deals. Due to the amount of market share that Qualcomm has, a large majority of phone purchases during the claim period were covered by the settlement. It's important to note that this class action is currently still pending in court, and any potential claim could be affected by any legal decisions that are made.

To register as a member of the class action in order to collect any potential settlement due to you and be notified of any future actions, you can visit the claim website here
