HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A body was found stuffed in a suitcase on Long Island on Tuesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

A resident made the gruesome discovery shortly before noon in a wooded area adjacent to 320 Nassau Rd. in Huntington, police said Wednesday.

The resident smelled a foul odor and saw a swarm of flies, leading them to the suitcase with a foot sticking out of it, according to police and witnesses.

There are schools located a short walk from the scene, and buses were late bringing kids home because of the large police presence in the area.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to determine the person's cause of death and attempt to identify them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
