The Oklahoma Sooners have invited country radio personality Bobby Bones to the team’s game on September 14th against Tulane . There, he will help lead the program’s Toby Keith singalong.

The Toby Keith singalong is a new tradition in 2024 for the Oklahoma Sooners. It was announced back in August and takes place between the third and fourth quarters of home games. Initially, the song to be sung wasn’t announced but in the home opener against Temple “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue” was played.

Toby Keith passed away in February of 2024 due to cancer. The musician known for songs like “Red Solo Cup” and “I Love This Bar” was known in his life for his love of Oklahoma athletics and since then the school has worked to embrace his memory. At an Oklahoma- Oklahoma State basketball game, the school used red solo cups for drinks and a video of fans singing the song later emerged from the game.

The singalong is another way that Oklahoma is working to honor Keith.

“Fans will benefit from improved connectivity with AT&T’s 5G service and enjoy amplified band performances and enhanced in-game graphics with live 3D renderings of game stats. A new real-time decibel meter will measure crowd impact, encouraging fans to make sure the Sooners can hear and feel their support. The Toby Keith Tribute 3rd/4th quarter break will celebrate the Oklahoma icon, giving 85,000 fans the opportunity to sing along with the legendary Sooner superfan,” the university said in a statement.

Brent Venables honored Toby Keith following his death

Following Toby Keith’s death, Oklahoma football coach Brent Venables took to social media to honor the singer.

“WE are all Better, for knowing Toby…An Amazing Man who GAVE to so many. RIP brother. All love & [prayers] For His Family,” Venables posted.

Along with his thoughts on Keith, Venables also shared an image. That picture was of himself alongside former head coach Bob Stoops and Keith himself. It was one of many tributes that came from the Oklahoma community to honor him, showing how much of an impact he had on Oklahoma.
