Hattiesburg Police Department officers engaged in a high-speed pursuit after a vehicle, driving erratically and making illegal turns, failed to stop for a traffic stop near Hardy Street and U.S. Highway 49.

Around 2 a.m., officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to pull over the vehicle. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated rapidly and continued eastbound on Hardy Street, running several red lights at intersections including Hardy Street and North 21st Avenue, Hardy Street and Park Avenue, Hardy Street and Hutchinson Avenue, and Hardy Street and Broad Street.

The chase came to a dramatic end when the vehicle collided with a roundabout at 2nd Avenue and Hardy Street, resulting in a crash. Four males exited the vehicle and fled on foot. However, police quickly apprehended all four suspects near the intersection of Corinne Street and 2nd Avenue.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Meridian, Mississippi. The driver, 18-year-old Khamyzion Aladmin Myial Smith of Meridian, was arrested and booked into the Forrest County Jail. Smith faces charges including providing false information to law enforcement, receiving stolen property valued over $1,000, and felony eluding.

Three juvenile males who were passengers in the vehicle were also arrested and charged with possession of a handgun by a minor. They were booked into the Forrest County Juvenile Detention Center.

The Hattiesburg Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
