Reno and the Sierra are enjoying a warm, pleasant September with temperatures in the 80s and 90s and light winds expected through Thursday. However, a haze from smoke aloft may affect visibility, especially north of the Reno-Carson City area. Thursday will likely be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures reaching 5-10 degrees above average.

As the week progresses, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases, starting Thursday and peaking Friday and Saturday. The Tahoe Basin and Mono County have the highest likelihood of rain, with chances of 30-40%. A weak upper trough will move through the area, bringing increased moisture and storm potential.

By the weekend, expect breezy conditions with stronger winds along ridgetops, and an elevated risk of fire weather. A more impactful storm may develop early next week, so residents should stay tuned for updates.
