Karen Thompson retired last week after over eleven and a half years with Public Works, with a farewell reception held on Thursday, Aug. 29. She began as a billing clerk in January 2013 and was promoted in May 2022 to administrative assistant to Public Works Director Keith Tilley, a position she maintained until her official retirement on Aug. 30, 2024.
The city provided refreshments for Thompson and her former coworkers, and Tilley and City Administrator and Police Chief Chris Henson shared a few kind words about her before presenting her with a plaque in appreciation of her service to the city.
“Karen takes a lot of knowledge with her, which is hard to replace, but I'm happy knowing she now gets to enjoy all the things she and Mike have worked for all these years. Most of us hope to retire while we're still relatively young and able to enjoy life, so I'm glad she accomplished that and made it to the finish line,” Henson said.
