NC Museum of History to undergo major redesign

A historic renovation is coming to the

NC Museum of History . The museum anticipates the renovation taking two to three years, and it will close Monday, Oct. 7 while the gift shop will remain open until Dec. 29.

After 30 years on East Edenton Street, the museum said it’s time for a “grand revitalization.” The makeover will transform the museum, giving an in-depth look into NC’s history.

“We’re embarking on an incredible journey, and what awaits us on the other side is nothing short of extraordinary — reimagined exhibits that will bring North Carolina history to life,” Brad Wilson, interim director of the NC Museum of History and Division of State History Museums, said in a press release.

During its closure, the museum will provide digital resources to keep the history of NC accessible. Fun fact: The museum has ties to the Smithsonian and was established in 1902, and the current museum was built in 1994.
