Sir Brian May, famed guitarist for Queen, recently revealed that he suffered a stroke and subsequently lost total control of his arm. In a video statement shared to his fans on Wednesday morning, May said he was rushed to the hospital following his medical emergency.

The video was a recap for fans of events from the week, and in the footage, 77-year-old May appeared to be in good spirits. He referred to his emergency as a “little health hiccup” and assured fans that he has regained mobility in his arm, though he did admit to finding the ordeal quite “scary.”

Last week, Brian May suffered a stroke that left him unable to move his arm or perform any music. He then recalled going “blue lights flashing” to the hospital and receiving strict orders for his recovery, but also had some positive, hopeful news to share with his fans.

“The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” he assured, “and I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago.” He also offered high praise for “the most fantastic care” he had been receiving,” and asked for fans to not reach out in sympathy as it would “clutter his inbox,” something he hates.

For now, based on his Wednesday episode, shared on May’s Instagram and official website, he is recovering well and doing as he’s told, “which is basically nothing,” he added. “I’m grounded, I’m not allowed to go out – well I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high, not allowed to have planes flying over, which will stress me. But I’m good.”

In the meantime, as he’s recovering from his minor stroke, May wanted to shine additional light on the documentary he fronted, The Badgers, The Farmers and Me. In it, he tackles a divisive badger culling taking place in Britain. It’s a battle that May, who is also a dedicated animal rights activist, has been waging for a decade now.

    Wishing him a smooth recovery!
