Teen charged in McLain High School shooting pleads guilty of manslaughter

UPDATE (9/4/24) — The teen suspect charged with shooting and killing Terron Yarbrough in 2022 at McLain High School's homecoming football game has entered a plea agreement.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Ni'Avien Golden entered a blind plea, pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter.

His sentencing is set for Nov. 12.

UPDATE (11/9/23) — According to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office, a judge ruled Wednesday that the defense cannot argue "Stand Your Ground" in the case of Niavien Golden.

The argument was that Golden shot in self-defense.

His jury trial is now set for Feb. 12, 2024.

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa County judge ruled Monday there is enough evidence to move toward a murder trial for a 16-year-old charged for shooting four people.

Niavien Golden is charged with second degree murder for the shooting death of Terron Yarbrough in September outside a homecoming football game at McLain High School.

Golden is also charged with three assault with a deadly weapon charges for the shooting of three others, including a 9-year-old girl.

Investigators say Golden pulled the gun during a fight.

A status hearing is set for April 27, to hear a report from the Office of Juvenile Affairs. This will likely determine if Golden will be tried as an adult, a juvenile or a youthful offender.

In the meantime, the defendant was taken back into custody.
