Strano Claims She Was Let Go After ‘Sharing Recovery Journey Publicly’

Meteorologist Hollie Strano, who spent 22 years with WKYC, has been let go.

Strano was arrested for drunk driving in November 2023. On Thanksgiving Day last year, she flipped her SUV after speeding at 70 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. Cuyahoga Falls Police cited Strano at a 0.244 blood alcohol level, almost three times the legal limit.

Luckily no one was seriously injured in the accident.

Strano would go on to plead guilty to an OVI charge. She lost her license for a year as a result of the guilty plea.

WKYC and its parent company, Tegna Inc. suspended Strano not long after the event. Three months after checking herself into rehab she returned to her on-air role, albeit with a slightly different schedule. Her new shift included fewer overall shifts and work over the weekend.

But just days ago Strano took to social media to announce to her fans and followers that she’d been fired.

“I am sad to share that after 22 plus years of dedicated work, WKYC and Tegna decided to terminate my employment after I shared my recovery journey publicly,”

She went on to say, “I believe the actions of WKYC and Tegna demonstrate the stigma surrounding addiction that so many in our community experience every day.”

Neither WKYC nor Tegna have publicly commented on the Strano news.
