This Tennessee Waterfall is Taller Than the Statue of Liberty

The Volunteer State is filled with stunning vistas and fascinating landscapes to explore. One of the most popular natural features in Tennessee is its waterfalls. And there are plenty of them! Here are nine falls that you should add to your travel bucket list, including the tallest one in the eastern United States, which is taller than the Statue of Liberty!

Ozone Falls

• Located in Ozone Falls State Natural Area in Crab Orchard, TN
• The falls are 110 feet tall and cascade into a rock amphitheater
• There is a natural swimming area at the base of the falls
• Hike to the falls is short — only .3 miles — and accessible

Laurel Falls

• Located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Gatlinburg, TN
• Falls are approximately 80 feet tall
• The hike to the falls heavily trafficked and is 2.6 miles round-trip
• There is a swimming pool at the base of the falls but swimming is discouraged

Abrams Falls

• Located in Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Townsend, TN
• Falls are 20 feet tall and incredibly powerful
• The hike to the falls is about five miles
• There is a pool but swimming is strongly discouraged due to currents and slippery rocks

Twin Falls

• Located in Rock Island State Park in Rock Island, TN
• Falls are approximately 80 feet tall
• Twin Falls Overlook Trail is an easy half-mile hike

Burgess Falls

• Located in Burgess Falls State Park in Sparta, TN
• Part of a series of four waterfalls
• Burgess is 136 feet
• Hike to the falls and back is approximately 1.5 miles round-trip

Cummins Falls

• Located in Cummins Falls State Park in Cookeville, TN
• 75-foot cascade
• Eighth-largest waterfall in Tennessee
• Has a refreshing swimming hole
• 1.5-mile hike to reach the falls

Foster Falls

• Located in South Cumberland State Park in Sequatchie, TN
• Falls are 60 feet tall
• The round-trip hike to the falls is 1.6 miles on the Foster Falls Climbers Loop Trail
• There is a swimming pool at the base of the falls
• Primitive camping is available

Fall Creek Falls

• Located in Fall Creek Falls State Park in Spencer, TN
• The highest waterfall in the eastern United States
• Measures 256 feet — taller than the Statue of Liberty!
• Short, steep walk to the falls
• Lodging options include cabins, campsites and a lodge

Greeter Falls

• Located in South Cumberland State Park’s Savage Gulf State Natural Area in Altamont, TN
• Greeter Falls is comprised of two falls – upper is 15 feet, lower is 50 feet
• The hike to the falls is approximately one mile round-trip
• There is a natural pool to swim at the base of the falls
• Hikers can take a spiral staircase to the base of the falls
