STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) — Two Detroit teens are in custody and another suspect is on the run after a police chase in Macomb County ended with a stolen car crashing into a business.

It all unfolded around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, when Sterling Heights police officers got a notification from their FLOCK camera systems that a stolen Kia was driving in the city.

Officers found the car headed east on Metro Parkway near Van Dyke and tried to pull it over, but the suspect took off speeding, police officials said.

The chase made its way through a subdivision and back to Metro Parkway before the suspect got on northbound Van Dyke.

Authorities say the suspects “attempted to do everything possible to get away from our officers,” including driving up to 100 mph, through red lights, into opposite lanes of traffic and turning the headlights off.

The Kia tried to make a turn on Van Dyke, but lost control and slammed into a building at 44011 Van Dyke in the city of Uitca.

That’s when three suspects got out of the car and ran in different directions. Two of them were caught right away, while the third got away.

Authorities are “working diligently to identify and get him into custody,” but no description of the third suspect has been released.

The two suspects, both 16-year-olds from Detroit, are being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Detention Center, awaiting official charges.

“Due to the outstanding, proactive policing by our officers a stolen Kia was recovered, and two dangerous suspects were taken off the streets! Once again, our officers put their lives on the line to keep Sterling Heights one of the safest communities and capture real criminals who were likely enroute to continue their criminal behavior,” said Sterling Heights Police Cpt. Mario Bastianelli.
