Caltrans is soliciting public input on improvements to a stretch of Rosemead Blvd. in South El Monte, including the possible addition of bike lanes.

An upcoming project will add traffic signals and upgrade curb ramps and crosswalks to Rosemead Blvd. between Garvey Ave. and Rush St., just north of Whittier Narrows Park. Caltrans is also considering adding bike lanes along the portion of road.

“The project’s intended purpose is to create dedicated paths for active commuters who utilize the existing facilities for work, school, or for recreational purposes,” according to the agency. “By extending and connecting the bicycle network, users will have fewer conflict points with vehicles and will be able to travel in a safer and more accessible manner.

People who live, work, or commute in the area are encouraged to fill out a survey about their travel habits and preferences for the street’s new design.

Caltrans will also host a public meeting at Jeff Seymour Family Center at 6 p.m. Wednesday night to inform residents about the project.
