'Dak Will Never Leave Cowboys!' Does Irvin Know Something?

    By Tony Fisher,

FRISCO - Michael Irvin has an unusual level of access to the thinking that goes on inside his beloved "America's Team. And right now, "The Playmaker'' is stating his thoughts on Dak Prescott's contract situation, painting a picture of how the NFL legend believes Prescott will remain with the Dallas Cowboys in a "Cowboy for Life'' manner.

"They'll never leave each other,'' Irvin said. "So the answer is, 'Yes, that I think (he will) be in Dallas for a long time.''

"Never'' is a long time. ... and as the two sides haggle over a deal that figures to make Prescott the highest-paid NFL player ever (whether that's soon, here in Dallas, or later here in Dallas, or next spring as a free agent signing elsewhere), Irvin is also talking about being "baffled'' on the supposed length-of-the-contract question.

"This last thing I am baffled on,'' he said, "is the Cowboys wanting the short contract .. If I'm Dallas right now I wouldn't want to come back to the table (so soon). ... I'm trying to give him five- or six-year deal. ... ''

Irvin, calling it a "bad decision,'' is referring to the report (see below) that has Prescott as the one wanting a long-term deal with the Cowboys wishing for a shorter term, with our Mike Fisher suggesting that Dallas' want here hints at a lack of faith in its MVP QB.

Still, as far as the passionate and plugged-in Irvin is concerned? This thing will get settled in what he views as the right way.

"Dak's going to finish his career in Dallas,'' Irvin said, "and there's not going to be another quarterback just going to uproot him and take over his job."
