DJ Brody Flynn is set to perform at The Point/Arc’s Zembrodt Education Center Fifth Annual End of Summer Picnic, Wednesday, September 11 at Pioneer Park (3952 Madison Pike, Covington).

“Historically we invite everyone who ever served in our programs,” Brandon Releford, ZEC Executive Director said. “That includes students – past and present – as well as families and friends.”

The event, catered by McHale’s Events and Catering, is set for 6 p.m.

The Zembrodt Education Center (ZEC) was created to give people with intellectual and developmental differences (I/DD) opportunities to reach their highest potential educationally, socially, and vocationally.

“We foster creativity and connection,” Releford said, “As well as learning and growth, and a spirit of belonging.”

Members of the ZEC Transition Program and Supported Employment, Peers, Elevated and Activities programs are all welcome to the event, according to Releford.

Twenty-nine-year-old Brody Flynn – aka DJ Flynn – began living his dream playing music on Friday evenings while in high school.

Brody has Down syndrome and said he has never let that keep him from following his dreams. Brody’s Music Service – entering year 10 – was formed for music for any kind of party, says Brody’s father, Dennis.

“The genres are endless,” dad Dennis says. “It’s always been the belief he can do anything anyone else can do.”

The music will play while the guests enjoy Kona Ice and participate in Frisbee Golf.

“We like doing an end of summer picnic,” Releford said, “It’s a wonderful transition to our new year of programming.

The Point/Arc – now in its 52nd year — was founded by a group of parents fighting for the educational rights of their children, who were diagnosed with an intellectual and developmental (I/DD) disability.

The mission – to help people with disabilities achieve their highest potential educationally, socially, residentially and vocationally. More than this, The Point/Arc has been an organization that identifies gaps in services and provides care and support to fill these gaps – even when government funding sources are not available.
