The Pittsburgh Penguins have not yet signed star captain Sidney Crosby to a contract extension. Many fans are wondering why it is taking so long for the 37-year-old to sign his extension. Crosby has been in the NHL since the 2005-2006 season. What if Sidney Crosby does not have a contract extension done by the 2025 NHL trade deadline? If the Penguins are out of the playoff race, there is no doubt that he could help another team win another Stanley Cup Title. The odds are that he does not ever want to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins, but what if he does? Which teams could use his services?

Colorado Avalanche

The team that makes the most sense for the Pittsburgh Penguins to trade Sidney Crosby to is the Colorado Avalanche. His best friend is Nathan MacKinnon. They are both from the same area and train with each other during the offseason. The Avalanche won the 2021-2022 Stanley Cup Title against the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. There is no doubt that the Colorado Avalanche will be a contender once again this season. Mikko Rantanen is also another elite player and the Avalanche would have the prospects to give the Penguins.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars are a very young team. Dallas needs a leader who can get them over the hump. Joe Pavelski retired from the NHL. Jason Robertson and Wyatt Johnston are two key players on the Stars roster and so is Roope Hintz. Dallas has a much better goaltending situation than the Pittsburgh Penguins do at the moment. Jake Oettinger is an elite goalie and Tristan Jarry has been hit or miss with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby could help the Stars win a title for the first time since 1999. Pittsburgh would be able to choose a plethora of Dallas Stars prospects in a trade.

Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks have some former Pittsburgh Penguins members within the organization. Jim Rutherford is in the Canucks front office. He was the general manager of the Penguins teams that won back-to-back Stanley Cups and is a huge fan of Sidney Crosby’s. Rick Tocchet is the head coach of the Canucks. He was the assistant head coach to Mike Sullivan during those championship years. The Vancouver Canucks were the number one seed in the Pacific Division last season before losing to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 in the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. It would be something if Sidney Crosby led the Vancouver Canucks to its first Stanley Cup Title in franchise history.

The odds that a trade happens however is very unlikely. This is just something for the viewers to think about. Some other teams that could be in play for him would be the Vegas Golden Knights, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Pittsburgh Penguins need to sign Sidney Crosby to a contract extension so this saga could finally come to an end.
