The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Heat Advisory for interior Humboldt, Mendocino, and Lake counties through Thursday evening, with temperatures soaring into the triple digits. Some areas may experience highs of up to 109°F, particularly in the interior valleys. The advisory may also be extended to include Trinity County due to limited overnight relief, with temperatures remaining in the 60s.

Coastal areas are not immune to the heat, with highs reaching the 70s and 80s before sea breezes provide some relief. However, dense fog is expected to complicate the forecast for coastal terminals.

A gradual cooling trend is anticipated as an upper-level ridge shifts eastward, with a weak trough developing offshore by Friday. While coastal areas will see cooler temperatures, interior regions like Humboldt, Trinity, and Mendocino counties will remain hot, with the possibility of elevated moisture and instability leading to isolated thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to cool more significantly over the weekend. By mid-next week, a cold upper low may bring unsettled, wet weather to Northern California.
