On-going Investigation in Lowndes County Due to Body Being Found in Local Park

Accoring to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, on Monday, September 2, 2024 at approximately 08:21 a.m., Lowndes County E-911 received a report of a body found at Luxapallila Creek Park in southern Lowndes County.

Upon arrival, deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office located the body inside a vehicle that had been completely burned. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were contacted and responded to the scene. At this time, detectives are treating this case as a homicide.

Lowndes County Coroner’s Office responded and a positive identification of the deceased, along with an official cause of death will be made by the Mississippi Office of the State Medical Examiner.
