School shooting: A 14-year-old student accused of killing four people and injuring nine others in a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday had previously been interviewed by the FBI after authorities received tips last year about online threats to commit an unspecified school shooting. Investigators are still looking into how the suspect identified as Apalachee student Colt Gray obtained the gun used in Wednesday’s shooting and got it into the school. The latest >
The investigation: Gray has been charged as an adult in the deaths of Apalachee High School students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and instructors Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. At least nine other people — eight students and one teacher at the school — were taken to hospitals with injuries and are expected to survive. ‘I was scared’: As an investigation continues into the school shooting , students at Apalachee High School expressed fear as they heard gunshots in the hallway outside of classrooms Wednesday. Cameron LeRoy, a 15-year-old student at the school, told NewsNation that he heard shots in the hallway and feared he would die . “You never think that’s going to happen to you until it does. ‘Hate will not prevail’: Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith described the school shooting as an act of “pure evil” and vowed that “hate will not prevail.” The tragedy hit close to home for Smith, a lifelong Barrow County resident whose children are in the school system. ‘Friend Killer’: One of Mexico’s most-feared drug lords was released from a U.S. prison after serving more than half of a 25-year prison sentence. Osiel Cárdenas Guillén was placed in the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday, an official from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed, which would normally suggest he’d be deported back to Mexico.
