Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation Needs Diapers to Support Families This Fall

    2024-09-05

September is Diaper Needs Awareness Month, and local nonprofit Rocky Mountain Children’s Health Foundation (RMCHF) is calling for diaper donations to help support families in Colorado. Nearly 1 in 2 American families struggles to afford enough diapers for their children, and this month-long initiative aims to both raise awareness and mobilize community support to address this pressing issue here in Colorado.

Diaper need, defined as the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry, and healthy, is a widespread problem that affects families across the country. Without access to an adequate supply of diapers, parents often face difficult choices between purchasing diapers and paying for other essential needs such as food or rent. In addition, the inability to afford diapers can lead to health risks for children, increased stress for parents, and barriers to accessing childcare and employment.

RMCHF is committed to supporting families in need by providing pediatric patients and their families with essential items, including diapers, through its Patient and Family Assistance program. In 2023, RMCHF distributed over 15,000 diapers to families across Colorado. This year they've seen a significant increase in need, already distributing over 11,000 diapers and are projected to distribute even more in the second half of the year. However, the demand continues to grow, and more support is needed to meet the needs of our community.

“During Diaper Needs Awareness Month this year, we encourage our community to take action and help alleviate this often-overlooked challenge faced by so many families,” said Cathy Sandoval, Executive Director of RMCHF. “No parent should have to worry about how they will provide such a basic necessity for their child, especially when their child is sick or in the hospital, and we want to make sure they don’t have to.”

RMCHF invites local businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in these efforts and make a difference in the lives of families in our community. Diapers in all sizes from newborn to size 6, pull-ups, as well as resealable packages of wipes can be dropped off at RMCHF at 5394 Marshall Street, Suite 400, Arvada (open boxes of diapers are accepted). Organizations interested in hosting a diaper drive can contact events@rmchildren.org for more information. Together, we can ensure that every child has the diapers they need to stay clean, dry, and healthy.
