The FBI received tips a year ago about the suspect in Wednesday’s shooting at Apalachee High School

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Atlanta office shared on Wednesday that the bureau had received tips about online threats last year involving the suspect of Wednesday’s shooting at Apalachee High School.

The FBI shared that in May of 2023, its National Threat Operations Center received an anonymous tip about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location made by then-13-year-old Colt Gray.

The bureau’s Atlanta office shared the news on X, noting that the threats contained images of guns, and the tip resulted in the evidence being turned over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office is said to have interviewed Gray and his father, who said that he had hunting guns in the house, but Gray did not have access to them.

The post said that, at the time, there was no probable cause for an arrest or additional law enforcement action. It was then that Jackson County passed on information to local schools.

However, Apalachee High School is in Barrow County and not a part of Jackson County schools.

It remains uncertain whether Gray attended a school in Jackson County before moving into the Barrow County School District.

The information from the FBI was also confirmed by GBI Director Chris Hosey during a 9 p.m. news conference.

Gray was identified as the suspect believed to have killed two teachers and two students while injuring nine others at Apalachee High School on Wednesday.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing at this time.
