Clemson is desperately looking to get their season back on track, while Appalachian State has hopes for being one of the best Group of 5 teams, which could potentially earn them a bid into the new 12-team College Football Playoff.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are coming off an easy win in Week 1, beating ETSU by a score of 38-10. The Mountaineers dominated this game to the tune of 500 total yards. Quarterback Joey Aquilar threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, one of which included an 83-yard touchdown pass to Christian Horn.

Their rushing offense was just as effective, totaling 174 yards on 32 carries and an average of 5.4 yards per carry. Seven different players had at least one carry with the leading rusher being Makai Jackson, who had one carry for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Appalachian State allowed 305 total yards, 122 passing yards, and 183 rushing yards. Admittingly, slowing down Clemson will be a much tougher task, but the Mountaineers certainly have the talent to be able to do just that.

Clemson Tigers

The Clemson Tigers were a major talking point this past weekend, albeit in a negative way as they were completely dominated by the number one-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. They lost to Georgia by a score of 34-3, falling to #25 in the latest AP Poll, and showed very little in terms of anything. Offensively, the Tigers managed just 188 yards of total offense, 142 passing yards from quarterback Cade Klubnik, and their team had a total of 46 rushing yards.

Defensively, the Tigers looked lost, especially in the second half against Georgia. They allowed a total of 447 yards, which includes 278 passing yards, and 169 rushing yards. Their performance against Georgia seriously damages any National Championship hopes, and much like Florida State, Clemson could already be in jeopardy of not being in the ACC Championship.

Prediction

While playing Appalachian State compared to Georgia is likely a breath of fresh air for Clemson, they will need to see a massive improvement if they hope to cover against the Mountaineers. App State has been a tough opponent in the past, therefore until Clemson can prove they can put together a complete game, backing Appalachian State to cover the +17 (-112) point spread will be our best bet.
